Corregidor trip

One of the last travels I had (with friends) before I say goodbye to my old job. Some of those in the pix are working or used to work for Pfzer, the rest (except me) are still connected with different newspapers.

Pre-Christmas shopping at LCNY outlets

5 friendly remarks
This is a Sponsored Post written by me on behalf of Liz Claiborne New York Outlets. All opinions are 100% mine.

I’m not sure if we are going to have a pre-Christmas shopping this year. But for sure we are going to the mall to buy some items for the kids’ traditional gift giving at school. For our personal effects, maybe it has to wait until hubby receives his bonus (if ever the company will be generous in releasing their Christmas bonus on time and in full amount).

Now, if I will be able to raise a substantial amount from my online income from this month onwards, then that will be the time I can buy something for the family and for myself. I will also wait for the mall wide sale before Christmas to ensure I’ll grab the big discount at my favorite shop. I’m also eyeing this elegant floral blouse I saw at Liz Claiborne New York Outlets. I’m not sure how much it costs, but definitely it’s worth my hard-earned money.
By the way, Liz Claiborne New York Outlets are having closing sales. Each store from various areas is giving out 50 to 80 percent discount on their fall fashion collections including boots, sweaters and jackets. You should hurry up before the store located in you area closes. This is the perfect timing for you to do your pre-Christmas shopping and grab that big big slash on all original prices.

A loyal employee

9 friendly remarks
My husband is celebrating a milestone in his professional career this month. He is celebrating his 25th year as loyal employee of the publishing company he is connected with.

Company awardees and their stories are featured in the anniversary issue of the newspaper today. One of them is my husband. His story can be a source of inspiration to young people who are striving hard to finish their studies through their own sweat and blood. Yes, my husband earned his college diploma by being a working student.

I'm sharing my husband's inspirational story here - how he started out as a janitor and work his way to earn the position he is holding now. Please read on.

Global Handwashing Day

6 friendly remarks
Why a Global Day for Handwashing with Soap?

Handwashing with soap is the most effective and inexpensive way to prevent diarrheal and acute respiratory infections, which take the lives of millions of children in developing countries every year. Together, they are responsible for the majority of all child deaths. Yet, despite its lifesaving potential, handwashing with soap is seldom practiced and difficult to promote.

The challenge is to transform handwashing with soap from an abstract good idea into an automatic behavior performed in homes, schools, and communities worldwide. Turning handwashing with soap before eating and after using the toilet into an ingrained habit could save more lives than any single vaccine or medical intervention, cutting deaths from diarrhea by almost half and deaths from acute respiratory infections by one-quarter. A vast change in handwashing behavior is critical to meeting the Millennium Development Goal of reducing deaths among children under the age of five by two-thirds by 2015.

Bathroom needs

0 friendly remarks
Are you planning to renovate your bathroom and you need new materials such as tiles, furniture and accessories? You can find all these at betterbathrooms.com at discounted prices. It's a convenient online store to shop for the items that you need for your bathroom project.

The online shop is currently offering 55 percent discount on bathroom suites and half the price on tiles. The choices for bathroom suites range from the traditional to modern bathroom suites. If your new bathroom is limited in space, you can choose micro bathroom suite.

You can choose from the variety of elegant tiles available. There are porcelain tiles, natural stones and mosaic tiles. You would not want to miss the adhesive products, tiling tools and accessories that look convenient to use if you are planning to install the tiles on your own. It will save you time and money. As for the cleaning stuff, there are stone care products suitable for your tiles.

Now you’re bathroom renovation wouldn’t be complete without the shower heads and other bathroom accessories. I personally love the square shower head with arm. This is the same shower head that I've seen in one of my favorite movies. As for the accessories, you can checkout toilet roll holders, shaving mirrors and soap dispensers at low prices.

Farewell to my Mother-in-law

11 friendly remarks
 My parents-in-law

I was texting my husband around 11:50 this morning to ask about her mom's condition in General Santos City. Hubby said his mom doesn't look good. My mother-in-law is diabetic and suffering from a kidney disease. She no longer respond to anything. Just before I could text my husband back, I received another message from him saying, "Wala na si nanay." I pause for a while and then call my husband while trying to control my tears...I feel for his loss. He was right after all, my mother-in-law was just waiting for him and his two older siblings to come home... It was my MIL's dying wish to see her children for the last time. My MIL passed away a day after my husband and his brothers arrived in Gen San. It was indeed a sad reunion for all of them knowing it will be the last time to see their mother alive. I think no one will be prepared to see someone you love slowly die before your eyes...
Taken during my MIL's 76th birthday celebration last July 25.

I had the chance to meet my MIL in person three times in 14 years. My parents-in-law and their six married children are all residing in GenSan so we don't have the opportunity to bond. But I know that my mother-in-law was a kind person, an endearing wife and caring mother to her eight kids and numerous grandchildren. We will surely miss her kindness. We love you Nanay. May your soul rest in peace. Until we meet again...

Breast Cancer Awareness Month - The Pink Ribbon Challenge

3 friendly remarks
pink ribbon

My cousin Cecil underwent mastectomy (removal of one or both breasts for the treatment or prevention of cancer - medline plus) early this year. She is undergoing series of treatment after the operation and I hope doctors will eventually declare her cancer-free after the treatment.

October is breast cancer awareness month. I'm joining the "Pink Ribbon Challenge" to help in the information dissemination campaign on breast cancer. The public should know more about breast cancer, its signs and symptoms, and ways to prevent it through observing a healthy lifestyle and teaching skills for early detection particularly breast self-examination.

Just click the pink ribbon to help one woman save life by getting free mammogram. If you may join with me and pass the pink ribbon challenge. These links are ONLY for "Pink Ribbon Challenge" participants, any links not related to the Pink Ribbon Challenge will be deleted. Grab the code at Things We Share and post it in your blog entry. Please post only the Pink Ribbon Challenge actual post link here and help The Breast Cancer Site and National Breast Cancer Foundation Inc. by spreading the Pink Ribbon Challenge.

Postcards and memories

0 friendly remarks

I was looking for some old letters to be featured for photohunt last week and saw this Christmas postcard from the box of old pictures and cards. This came from former sources at UNAIDS Philippines (Joint United Nations Programme on HIV/AIDS Philippines). The names on the card were members of the health organization who deals with media organizations. These people work efficiently to make the program of the agency accessible to the public. At least, that’s how I know them professionally.

Christmas cards such as this one have a way of bringing back worthwhile memories of my previous job. Aside from postcards I also receive two or more e-cards from news sources during my birthday and holiday season. You may click here if you are looking for cards for your friends at work, family members and other people worth your appreciation this Christmas.
