Birthday Girl: That's me!

7 friendly remarks
From the mouth of babes hehe. Joke. Seriously, I'm so very happy upon reading every greet post made by my marces and friends. You really made my day. I can't thank everyone enough for all the wonderful wishes they left at my site and at FB.

When I quit my regular work three years ago, I thought I completely shut myself from the outside world (parang nasa loob ako ng Bahay ni Kuya hehe) leaving my friends behind. But I was introduced to blogging and its zany characters (bloggers po) and my life was not the same anymore. I develop friendship with many of my fellow bloggers and hopefully blossom into a lasting relationship beyond the blogosphere.

The following posts with their corresponding links are my marces and friends who wrote the post for me on their sites. Please visit them to know more about this wonderful people.

From Marce Chris
May God bless you Yami!

Happy Birthday Marce Yami. My earnest prayer for you on your birthday is that may the love of God be with you all day through with his endless and boundless grace. May He richly bless your life with much happiness and success.
May we see each other someday.

I envy your old work too, i love to work in the media, lol. Do i sound so envious of you?! ^_^ All i want to say is that you are one LUCKY Lady and am so proud to call you my kumare..

Happy Happy Birthday Marce Yami!! Mwahness

From Sis Mylene:
It is my dear friend’s birthday today, and that is none other than Yami. She is the woman behind Mom Writes for a causeYam’s File and Pen, Paper & Pan.  I’ve met this kind-hearted girl through Mommy Moments. Her meaningful and relevant posts are the reasons why I keep coming back to her blogs.  I haven’t seen this sweet mommy in person yet but we had a chance to burn lines few months ago.  And though we had no chance to see each other face-to-face yet, this is not enough excuse to hinder our friendship to flourish. I thank God for this wonderful mommy.
Happy Birthday Mommy! I pray that God continue to bless you and your entire family. May He grant you the desires of your heart.

I have already met her in person, and she is so warm, much like what you'd feel when you read her posts. I didn't know she was a professional writer (yes she is! And I'm proud to be her marce! Woot!) before she turned work-at-home-mom (I learned by reading her short bio on Barrio Siete), but it's obvious with how well she expresses herself on her blogs. I just didn't realize how "involved" she was with her work before the blogging world. To you marce, the woman who cried because of Fedhz on their first EVER meet-up (BAD Fedhz! LOL), you know I love you dearly and would do anything for you. I miss talking to you on YM (install your messenger! Now na! Tee hee). Oi, don't cry ha? I know you cry easier than the rest of us marces. Hehe. Love you marce! Looking forward to seeing you on June! Don't be absent ha?

From Fedhz
O, nasurpresa ka no? hahaha! Wala akong masabi kundi miss kita. Naks me ganun?

Yan, walang link. hehe.

Dream big

0 friendly remarks
My sister who is working in Macau has planned to relocate either in Canada, London or US, depending on the opportunity that will come her way. Her contract at the clinic spa will expire this year and I'm not sure whether she will sign up for another contract or not. No definite plans yet.
Well, I’m sharing this because if ever she will be relocated to work in the US and will have the opportunity to choose what state she will be in, I will suggest to her to reside in North Carolina and lease one of the luxurious NC Apartments there. I haven't been in any US state or know someone living in the area. But I've come to admire the place through the pictures that I saw on the Internet. The neighborhood seems spotless.

Apartments in North Carolina are spacious, big enough to raise her young kids. If her salary is high enough to buy any of the North Carolina Apartments, I might suggest to her to lease out the portion of the property and earn from its rental (if that is allowed in the US). Their place will also serve as our vacation house just in case my dream to win the lottery will come true. Remember my dream travel destination that I wrote in my other site (tourisme Paris)? The US will be our next stop. :)

Hairy legs

0 friendly remarks
When I was studying I dread attending PE (physical education) classes that require students to wear shorts. I dislike wearing PE shorts because of the unsightly hair on my legs and they are not shapely. But I can't do anything to evade the subject more so drop it. I wish there was an easy way to get rid of leg hair permanently. So when I learn to shave, I do it almost everyday to keep the hair from growing back. If I miss a day the little hair growth becomes very uncomfortable. They are itchy, I swear. Even the shaver or razor that I used was kind of old fashioned. There are times I cut my skin while shaving. I read about beauty tips and even Dermatology information on what causes and how to minimize if not prevent leg hair from growing.

When I graduated and got a job, I bought hair removal products. I’ve tried hair removal wax, hair removal cream and easy-glide razor for women. I got tired using the wax and cream so I just use the razor after bath. Shaving everyday consume a lot of my time while preparing for work. Sometimes, I thought of having a Laser Hair Removal in Los Angeles to end my tedious battle with leg hair. Some reviews claim they’re the best clinic in permanent hair removal. They also perform Celibre Laser Tattoo Removal. Well, just in case anybody is looking for tattoo removal clinic. You can check it out.

At present, I still use razor but this time I don’t shave everyday because I notice that as I aged, the leg hair appear to grow slowly (there might be a clinical explanation for this).

Mother's Day Gift idea

0 friendly remarks
This is a Sponsored Post written by me on behalf of Bliss Living. All opinions are 100% mine.

I want to give something to my mom on Mother's Day. But the gift idea on my mind is not something that she needs, but I know she will be happy to have one. I'm talking about a necklace from Bliss Living Jewelry. My mother is not a jewelry person like me. I grew up seeing her using the same old pair of earrings and a very old personal ring.
If ever this will be the first time that I will be giving her a necklace with her name etched on it or a piece with our name on it (hers, mine and my sister’s). You may find this corny, but I want my mother to feel that we are close to her heart and we care for her always even if we don’t show it often. As you know, she is taking care of my young nieces and nephews while my sister is working abroad. When I visit her in their rented house, I always find her looking sadly out a window. I'm sure she misses my sister. I wish I could do something to make her happy.

Do you think a personalized silver necklace will make my mother smile? I'm sure she would. I couldn't give her diamonds, but this necklace that I saw at blissliving.com is simple but precious to look at. I will order one for my mother and another for my sister. (I hope hubby will buy one for me too. wink)

If you are interested to give your beloved mom, grand mom, wife or sister a necklace this Mother’s Day celebration, place your order now so your loved one will be able to receive your gift in time for the occasion. Blissliving.com is offering free shipping on all orders over $99. That's a lot of savings for personalized gifts purchased online.

I hope you can make the occasion truly memorable to your mom or your wife with or without a material gift. Make them feel that you love and care for them while they are still around.

Sore eyes

3 friendly remarks
My son woke up this morning with reddish and gummy secretion in both eyes. He has sore eyes. This is expected because its one of the diseases listed by the Department of Health to increase this summer. Good thing we have an anti-bacterial eye drop that was recommended by the company doctor to heal various eye diseases including sore eyes and eye irritation caused by using cheap contact lens.

Speaking of contact lens, hubby was tempted to use a pair of disposable contact lens when he was still single. He had friends and officemates who wear contacts so he was able to compare contact lens' advantages and disadvantages. However, he changed his mind when he realizes the inconvenience using contact lens could give him by taking it off every night and cleaning it before use. That's the reason why he prefers using eyeglasses more than ever.

For those with eye condition like sore eyes and irritation from contact lens use, you should see your doctor for immediate treatment. What I share here including the use of eye drop is not meant to encourage you to self-medicate. I’m just sharing my personal experience with the eye medicine recommended by a doctor to treat my son’s sore eyes.

My cottage home

1 friendly remarks
When my family went to La Mesa Ecopark on Holy Friday, we passed several houses inside the subdivision leading to the watershed. We admired the beauty of some of the newly-built houses we saw there. Most of which are two-storey houses built with modern or a contemporary home plan design. My daughter wishes to live in one of those houses. She likes a big house with a garden full of beautiful flowers. I wish to own a place like that too, but as far as the house size is concerned, I prefer a smaller one like the cottage home I saw at HousePlansandMore.com of HDA, Inc.

I like a small place because it is easier to manage. I don’t have to spend so much time to keep it tidy and clean. I’m not fond of big houses maybe because I’m not used to it. I grew up in a small house as a kid. My late grandmother who raised me taught me household chores. One of the tasks I learned from her was to clean the house every weekend. I don’t have a hard time doing that because as I’ve said, we live in a small place.

The cottage plans that I saw at HousePlansandMore.com are a perfect fit for my taste. Cottages or cabins are usually smaller than the common size of a house as they have one or one and a half stories. If ever I build a house like that I will use the same house plans featured on the website. I want my cottage home to have four rooms; one master bedroom, two smaller rooms for the kids, and another room for the guest.

I can never know when our dream house will be realized, but as far as me and hubby are concerned, we really have to start working hard now. I believe that hard work will pave the way for the brighter future of our family.

Terrible headache

1 friendly remarks
I had a terrible headache the other day. We went out around noon using our motorbike to buy cooked food for lunch. We are wearing caps, but we still feel the scorching heat on our skin. So when we got home, I feel the pounding pain inside my head.

I lay down on the sofa after lunch. I placed a wet towel on my forehead trying to relieve the pain. I even took pain reliever medicine, but to no avail… I had several pending assignments to write including a review about casino games. But I just can’t stand sitting with my head throbbing. It would be easier to write about online casino slots if I don’t feel this way. Good thing there are list of casino games online that could teach casino players tricks on how to win casino online.

I'm afraid that I might suffer a terrible headache again if the weather condition does not improve. The temperature here falls between 34 to more than 36 Celsius being the highest. A little rain will help lessen the sweltering heat.

Our online project will tentatively begin next week so I can’t afford to nurse another headache. I think I should start stocking up on pain reliever, just in case.

Ending game

3 friendly remarks
One of the traits admirable to common Pinoys (Filipinos below the poverty line) is their ability to find means to survive. There are those who sell their wares on the sidewalk or have their cramped living quarter rented. Others resort to betting games. In our neighborhood, one popular game is the “ending game” where the bettor would choose a pair of numbers on the betting card. The numbers represent the last digit of the final score of the winning basketball team. I’m referring to our own PBA (Philippine Basketball Association) and NBA (National Basketball Association) of the US. The bettor who will get the correct last two digits wins and takes home whatever amount collected by the game operator.

I personally know a neighbor who operates an "ending game". She is a mother of three grown up kids, two are still in college. She has breast cancer, but still she hops from one house to another (excluding ours) to persuade our neighbors to place their bet. It looks fun and easy on the pocket (you can bet for just a few pesos, I think). Anyway, my neighbor usually takes home the bet money if no one wins the game. Do you know what she does to her earnings? She spends most of her earnings to support her two children to tertiary school. I may not approve of her means to earn money, but the fact that she has a health condition to worry about and she still works to make ends meet is admirable. I will understand her predicament, but how about the "ending game" operators as young as my son? I think an answer to this needs a separate post because it's a different story altogether.

Treatment for adults with ADD/ADHD

0 friendly remarks
Adolf (not his real name) always gets into trouble at school everyday. People who knew him thought it was just a manifestation of hyperactivity or plain mischievousness in a child. He learned about his true condition when he is already in college. Doctors diagnosed him with Adult ADD (Attention Deficit Disorder).

Adolf tried different ADD Treatment in order to run a normal life. He had been to Psychiatrists, Psychologists, and ADD Coaches to keep him on the right track. He had been prescribed various stimulants that actually worked well. He came to a realization that a lot of people with ADD self-medicate with stimulants, most notably cocaine.

However, the stimulants left him feeling sketchy and weird. There was a time he really lost his appetite so he thought the stimulants are not a good part of a long term strategy.

Adolf looked at ADD diets that are being touted as a great solution. He said the most notable of the bunch is the Feingold Program. The Feingold Program removes the consumption of food dyes and colorings. Synthetic dyes contain harmful contaminants like lead, mercury, arsenic, and benzidine (a carcinogen or any substance that causes cancer).

He also tried the effectiveness of Neurofeedback and other alternative approaches. Neurofeedback is a long term solution that involves learning to work with ADD via feedback, either positive or negative depending on the results. Rewards/Reinforcements can be as simple as a change in pitch of a tone or as complex as a certain type of movement of a character in a video game.

Adolf said some current research has shown that certain strains of marijuana can provide focus to people with ADHD (Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder) and many people have successfully used marijuana as a replacement to other medications (such as Ritalin or Methylphenidate).

So where does Adolf now in his journey to seek the better ADD/ADHD treatment? He said he is done with meds and doctor types. He is leaning towards more organic approaches like the last two.

A little fidgety

0 friendly remarks
The translation project that I'm telling you about will begin two weeks from now. I hardly read and practice the program that we are going to use. This project is big because once we’re able to deliver a good job; the prospect of working with Microsoft (the Microsoft) for a long term is high. Wow! I mean wow! I haven’t given it that much thought at first because I was busy with writing opportunities for my three blogs. Sometimes I do a little research on Casino gambling. Now, I realized I only have one solid week to comprehend the instruction and practice the demo program given by my friend. I don’t want to miss this chance.

Naomi's latest work

12 friendly remarks
Have you seen my daughter’s latest color painting? This is her latest creation. I asked her what kind of flower is this. She said she don’t know because she just copy the image from the Internet. It looks like a daisy to me.

We are planning to put personalized frames to her latest work and her other painting collection. My daughter is supposed to attend a summer art school, but unfortunately we lack the extra budget to pay for the short course. She is keen on improving her painting so she could try fine art prints as well. She plans to make personalized greeting cards using her paintings as design in the future.

I'm so proud of my daughter that I want her to have her own site just like a virtual online gallery where she can post all her drawings and paintings for my friends and our relatives to see. I want her to know how supportive we are to all her endeavor. We want to boost her self-confidence, to express her self well through her art.
My daughter is basically shy and prefers to stay at home. Painting (next to reading) is her only outlet, which will also keep her busy this summer.

You know what my daughter did after we told her that we have to postpone our plan to enroll her to summer art school? She prints reference photos of the subject that she would like to develop on. She intends to improve her craft through self-study. That's my girl!

Reconnect with friends

0 friendly remarks
You’re looking for friends or relatives whom you have not seen in a while. You’ve tried searching for them in all social networks, but to no avail. Maybe namebrowser.com can help you locate and reconnect with them. I tried searching for my college friend Eileen (surname omitted) through namebrowser.com and find at least one record of her in the United States. I can also get her fully validated email address, social network she joined in, her current address and phone number listings. All I need to do is subscribe to emailfinder.com. The membership fee is only minimal compared to the convenience it will give me when I will finally locate my old friend. We have a lot of catching up to do. I’m sure she has a family of her own now. I wish to see her soon.

New pet

My son got a new pet companion. He and his dad bought these goldfish last week. They've placed them in a fish bowl. I took a picture of them and they look like swimming on a platter lol.
The little colorful things floating in the water is their food.
Pet fish is a good stress reliever. They also keep my son from staying longer in front of the computer because he’s spending a lot of time cleaning and feeding the fish. hehe

Caribbean cruise for my husband

0 friendly remarks
If there is one person in my family who needs a break, it would be my husband. He’s working at the age of 19 to support himself to school. When we got married 14 years ago, I’ve never seen him tardy or absent from work for no apparent reason. He would file a leave of absence when he is sick, which rarely happens or when I or any our two kids is in the hospital. He is devoted to his profession and I admire him for that. A man like him truly deserves a break and a treat. How about a vacation package deals?

If I have a big amount of money in my hand right now, I’m going to give him a Caribbean cruise for a gift. I’m sure he will love that especially if he knows that his travel will include all inclusive deals at Breezes Resorts in the Caribbean.

For sure hubby will never forget the all inclusive holidays package of the Breezes Resort where he will get to experience the best spa and other fun activities being offered to clients. Oh how I wish to hit the lotto jackpot this time so I can make my man feel special.

Halo-Halo treat

We dropped by at Chowking (Fairview Mall Branch) to treat ourselves with halo-halo after a tiring but fun walk at  Eco Park.
Hubby is enjoying his share

Halo-halo (from Tagalog word halò, "mix") is a popular Filipino dessert that is a mixture of shaved ice and milk to which are added various boiled sweet beans and fruits, and served cold in a tall glass or bowl.
Halo-halo is one of the most popular refreshments in the Philippines during summer time.

Dream vacation

Aside from our planned visit to the museum and parks this summer, my family is also interested in visiting my husband’s parents and his siblings in General Santos City. It is located in the southern part of Mindanao and famous for fresh Tuna and its products. It’s been two decades since hubby visited the place. Even his siblings have grown old. He last saw his sister as a young girl. Now, she has teenage kids herself. How time flies. We want to spend our summer vacation there. If it is not possible this year, we might look for at family vacation packages that include affordable family vacations.

There are a lot of family vacation destinations here in Luzon. We are considering Tagaytay. I was there four or five years ago during a sponsored trip courtesy of the Department of Health. I wish my kids could have witnessed the beauty of Taal Volcano (a volcano within a lake within a volcano) that can be seen from a distance. Hubby is bent on bringing our kids to a place they’ve never been like Tagaytay. Another place that we want to spend time exploring is Subic Bay. We visited there while on my son’s field trip two months ago. This time we would want to really explore the place and experience what it’s like to see animals roaming and frolicking in the Zoobic Safari.

My entry for

Child safety gates

0 friendly remarks
I have two nephews and a two-year-old niece. My mother is the only person taking care of them while their mom, my younger sister, is working in Macau. They hire a helper but her work is limited to cleaning and washing the clothes. Sometimes the house help would bathe the kids while my mother is cooking. Their place is elevated so they have to install a baby gate to prevent my niece from falling down the stairs. The baby gate also prevents my preschool nephews from going out unattended.

If you are looking for quality Baby Gates, you can check out KidsSafeInc.com to choose from several stylish gates that suits your needs. Families with young children should install Child Safety Gates like the ones sold by KidCo Gates. The company also specializes on Pressure Gates, Pet Gates, Stairway Gates and Extra Wide Baby Gates. Check out KidSafeInc.com for more information about baby gates.

You will find out more information about KidSafe by following updates on Facebook, Twitter, You Tube, and the KidSafe Blog.

Friday Photo Flashback - College years

3 friendly remarks
It's been a while since my last post for Alicia's FPF meme. I've got this picture buried in my desktop folder for a long time. This picture was taken in 1990 during the PUP Mass Communication Week. We are posing for a souvenir photo after the parade. Can you find me in the group? From the third row, I'm the second girl (with bangs) on the left side.

I hope you can join us this week at

Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Squeakquel

0 friendly remarks
This is a Sponsored Post written by me on behalf of Alvin and the Chipmunks. All opinions are 100% mine.
One of my kids’ favorite activities next to playing computer games is watching DVD movies. I think they took it from us, because hubby and I both love to watch movies. Sometimes we have movie marathon at home especially movie sequels. Just last week, we (minus hubby) had a good time watching Alvin and the Chipmunks and its sequel for the nth time. We can’t get enough of the cute singing trio. Where on earth will you see chipmunks talking, singing and dancing at that? It’s really hilarious and worth watching. They are great stress-relievers too. LOL.

I grew up watching cartoons including Alvin and the Chipmunks. But it’s only now that I really get to appreciate these cute characters because animation created them to look like real chipmunks talking and interacting to real people in the movie. We own a DVD copy of both movies, but they are reproduction of our friends’ original DVD copy.

We want to own the original Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Squeakquel CD, which I heard is also available in Blu-ray and Digital Download. Other mommy bloggers who already bought a copy are sharing in their post how they enjoyed More Munk Mayhem in the sequel. I’m sure you’ll enjoy the movie too once you've watched it. If we have an extra budget, we might go the mall and buy it now so we can add it to the rack of all our favorite movies. :)

Big shoes for the big kids

2 friendly remarks
Good day everyone! I know my post for Mommy Moments is late again, but can't miss this one as this week’s theme talk about our kid's shoes. My children have a few pair of shoes, but none of them is bought. They are either hand me down or purchased using gift cheques.

Here’s what they always wear during school days. We got Khalil's shoes from Happy Feet through gift cheque courtesy of hubby’s office. Isn't it big for a 10-year-old boy? Hehe

Naomi’s school shoes were originally mine. I used them when I was still working. It’s a Rockport brand which we bought on sale. Naomi is only 13, but her shoe size is 7 1/2 to 8 inches.

This is my take for this week for Mommy Moments. See you next week.

My travel experience

0 friendly remarks
One of the things that I missed when I was still working is the free travel opportunities and accommodation in hotel or resort. The last travel that I had was in 2006 in Tagaytay for a media briefing on Contraceptive Self-Reliance Strategy (CSR) conducted by the Department of Health’s Family Health Office. The conference was conducted at Days Hotel for two days.

However, the most memorable sponsored trip for me was in Cebu City. We stayed at the Plantation Bay Resort for a couple of days for a family planning activity. The place was amazing. I wish to go back there and take my family with me for a grand vacation.

Speaking of hotels, my sister is planning to work in London or Canada after her stint in Macau. I'm sure she'll enjoy the beautiful places including famous hotels in London. I have a friend in college who is now working in London. I saw his pictures in Friendster, most of the shots were taken in places I've only seen in movies. What an awesome view.

Back to my travel memoir, I missed the chance of covering an event in Geneva. Aside from lacking the necessary travel documents, there is a seniority rule (among reporters) when it comes to joining the Secretary for an out-of-the-country coverage. Can I tell you a secret? Actually, someone plays favorite that's why I didn’t make it to the selection process. Anyway, that’s water under the bridge now I'm just sharing what I missed. Sigh.

Know your candidates and vote wisely

1 friendly remarks
It’s exciting to watch presidential candidates here in the Philippines engage in debate with fellow candidates on national television. The voting public is learning from those discussions giving them the opportunity to choose the right person to vote. Even political chat forum can help the voters understand the stand of their presidential bet on particular issue. We’ll see who among the old and new faces in the political arena can bring "change" to what we have right now.

I admire candidates who actively participate in debates to answer issues thrown at him by his or her rival and have a clear stand on timely issues/problems besetting the country in general. People should be aware that candidates who depend on political gimmickry to be popular or evade issues at some point are those you can't truly trust or rely in times of emergency. What will become of us when we are faced with another natural or man-made calamity?

How many presidential candidates have promised to uplift the living condition of the poor or provide job to the millions of people seeking a decent way to live? Most of them do at first glance. But how many were able to keep their promise? I hope dear readers that you'll think several times about the candidates whose name you'll write on the ballot form. They will shape our childrens' future and the generation next to them. Do they deserve to be in power? We just hope that this coming election will be peaceful and clean. Vote wisely.

Moving Up Day

4 friendly remarks
Official school vacation at my kids’ school started last March 25 for high school and March 26 for elementary students. Both dates marked the most awaited event for students, their respective Recognition Day.

Naomi received the Model Citizen Award for maintaining marks not lower than B in the lists of behavioural assets such as Self, Interpersonal, and Work Habits inside the classroom.

Khalil, on the other hand, was awarded three certificates. I have posted about it here.

Hubby and I are proud parents because their efforts for the past 10 months have been rewarded.

This year, none of the two kids made it to the GLS Harvest of Achievers where the general average should be 91 percent or higher. They felt a little disappointed at first, but we assured them that we are very proud of them whatever award they get this year.

I wish to post our pictures taken during Recognition Day, but I'm having difficulty inserting image. I promise to post it next time.

Anyway, share your unforgettable moving up day story with us at Mommy Moments.

Music lover

3 friendly remarks
This is a Sponsored Post written by me on behalf of Madacy Entertainment. All opinions are 100% mine.

We’re not a family of singers, but I'm glad my children can hum a tune or two. They love music because they have been exposed to classical music and nursery rhymes when they were still babies. Classical music put them to sleep easily. Nursery rhymes taught them new sounds, numbers, letters, colors, and shapes as toddlers. Science has proven that children who were exposed to music during their formative years (first five years) enhance their ability to think, learn and reason and create. My children grew up to be smart kids and I owe it to music.
Dga2_4674
I have two young nephews and a niece who were all under five years old. I wish they will grow up to have the same fondness for music like their older cousins. I'm planning to give them the Ultimate Countdown Kids Collection: 200 Sing-A-Long Favorites. I'm sure they will love the same nursery rhymes my kids grew up hearing at home such as Hickory, Dickory, Dock, Humpty Dumpty, Jack and Jill, Pop Goes the Weasel, and many more.

I’m glad that Amazon will offer the album as MP3 Daily Deal for only $3.99 on Easter Sunday (April 4, 2010). The digital album normally sells for $11.99. This is an amazing gift for children all year round. Please check out their site so you won’t forget the date when this great offer will become available in the market.
