Pixel Bug: Shining Inheritance marathon

12 friendly remarks
We spend our weekend watching the whole 28 episodes of Korean TV drama Shining Inheritance. It was worth watching and Pinoys can easily relate to the characters played by Go Eun Sung (Inna in the Tagalized version of GMA7) and Sun Woo Hwan (Juan). It is still being aired on GMA7 every night.

Aside from the love angle the series also give emphasis to the value of compassion. It says that you can always show sympathy to a poor man lying on the street but it’s rare that one will suffer with him literally (lay beside him on the cold pavement).

Here’s a brief description of the series:

This will be focusing on the love and trials of the 20 year old generation. Go Eun Sung's life is similar to Cinderella's. After her father died, her step-mother, Baek Sung Hee, took away all of her assets and her younger brother, Eun Woo, suddenly disappears without a trace. Eun Sung persevere and works really hard to become a chef at a food company. The grandson of the food company, Sun Woo Hwan, notices Eun Sung and falls in love with her.

You can watch all 28 video links here. http://www.mysoju.com/shining-inheritance/
This is how my family spend our weekend. How about you? Share your stories here at Sassymom's Pixel Bug.

Charter expands Phatband Internet Speed

0 friendly remarks
This is a Sponsored Post written by me on behalf of Charter. All opinions are 100% mine.

Hubby and I might pursue our plan to cut our DSL subscription. Hubby has been complaining of slow Internet connection for weeks now. Last week, he was searching for a Denzel Washington movie and it took him hours to complete downloading the whole film because of slow buffering. Whew! We noticed the slow connection after typhoon Ondoy hit our country. We don't have an alternative yet, but we are thinking of subscribing to cable Internet service. We would love to subscribe to charter ultra fast 60 if it becomes available in the Philippines. Hubby have heard from his friends who are based in the US that Charter ’s Ultra60 Mbps is making waves in St. Louis and Southern California in terms of providing high-speed connection. Hubby said that with the current speed of Ultra60, we can watch a movie anytime we want without interruption (of slow buffering). My kids will surely love the idea of watching their favorite TV shows without being disturbed by “searching” or “loading” messages. Hubby’s friends are definitely lucky because Charter is reportedly expanding in the northeast and will cover more areas before 2010 ends. We really hope Charter will include the Philippines in its expansion project. We love the idea that cable services can save us time and money. With cable Internet my family will have more bonding time by watching online movies and hubby will have easy access to multimedia sites looking for gadgets and stuff.

A quit smoking diary

0 friendly remarks

It’s alarming that individuals as young as 13 to 15 years old are addicted to smoking due to curiosity and peer influence. I have two preteen kids and at this point I’m beginning to worry about their possible exposure to friends or schoolmates who smoke. If you know a friend or someone close to you who wants to stop smoking you can recommend them to read valuable information at myquitsmokingdiary.com. The site may be able to help them plan to prepare themselves to quit smoking. They are given options to available therapy products that will work for them. Smokers who are trying to quit may find interesting tips on how former smokers did it successfully. The biggest challenges faced by smokers attempting to quit are the withdrawal symptoms that can be both physical and psychological. The physical symptoms are manifested through tightness in the chest, insomnia, headaches, difficulty concentrating, sore throat and indigestion, constipation and nausea. On the hand, psychological symptoms include cravings and yearnings, depression and hunger and increased appetite. Your quit smoking diary offers resources to help you manage these symptoms properly. If you are a smoker and you are determined to quit, please consider it as a gift for your family. They love to see you healthy and strong. If your have queries related to your attempt to quit smoking, experts at myquitsmokingdiary.com are very much willing to offer their help.

NUJP statement on Maguindanao carnage

2 friendly remarks
I'm reposting this from Shawarma Nights in support of NUJP's call to stop the killing of journalists...and my way of echoing their sentiments over our fallen brothers in the profession. Shawarma Nights is maintained by former PJI editor Ares Gutierrez now based in Dubai.

Maguindanao carnage strikes at the very foundations of democracy

The National Union of Journalists of the Philippines (NUJP) demands justice for our colleagues and all the other victims of the November 23 carnage in Maguindanao province.

The Ampatuan massacre, which the military has confirmed was perpetrated by Shariff Aguak Mayor Andal Ampatuan Jr. and police Sr. Inspector Dicay, goes beyond the issue of freedom of the press and of expression and strikes at the very foundations of democracy.

Aside from the wife, relatives and supporters of Ismail Mangudadatu, who were on their way to file his certificate of candidacy to run as governor of Maguindanao, the slaughter also claimed the lives of at least 12 colleagues, according to reports from our chapters in Mindanao.

This incident not only erases all doubts about the Philippines being the most dangerous country for journalists in the world, outside of Iraq, it could very well place the country on the map as a candidate for a failed democracy.

Running for office and voting are as much exercises of free will and expression as covering and reporting the news.

We expect nothing less from this government than the swift apprehension and punishment of everyone involved in this gruesome assault on the national body politic, including the masterminds, regardless of who they might be.

Anything less would mean that the impunity that has emboldened those who would silence the press, staining this administration with the worst record of murdered journalists, has spread to embolden those who would subvert our democracy for their own selfish interests

Bike shed for us

0 friendly remarks
I’ve told my online friend about my interest to go jogging with her one weekend. This is in connection with my ultimate goal to lose weight and be fit for my health. I have not started any program on dieting yet not even watching what I eat (sigh). Hence, I need an activity (aside from household chores) where I can burn calorie(s) to the hilt. ^^ How about biking? Hubby has been telling me to try biking. Why not? The only problem we have at the moment is that our bike, actually its hubby’s is too tall for me. I want a bike that is fit for me (or my weight) that can be used by my kids later. If we are going to have another bike we will need a bike shed to be placed just outside our house. Bike storage sheds are necessary to protect the motorbike from constant exposure to sun and rain. I’ve seen one that fits our need for bike sheds at asgardsss.co.uk. They have useful step by step instructions on how to assemble the metal shed.

A second course in MRI technology

0 friendly remarks
Two of my former colleagues who studied nursing as their second course are now licensed nurses. They have plans to work abroad and are now training in local hospitals to gain experience. One of them is persuading me to study and even offer her textbooks for free. But I told her that instead of a nursing career, I’m intending to pursue MRI technology program (if time and budget will permit it). MRI is one the several core programs being offered at medacademy.org including vocational nursing, psychiatric technician, ultrasound technology and radiologic technology. Faculty members teaching these courses are active medical professionals from Europe, Asia, North America and South America to ensure that students will get the best possible education in medicine.

I blame it on my hormones

5 friendly remarks
I’m not in a blogging mood lately. I haven’t responded to emails, comments and queries from dear friends since last week. I hope they understand me...I’m not sure what causes this gloomy feeling… I wish I could share them here...Can I blame my hormones for this? I'm pushing ** and some signs of hormone imbalance are already showing up. The prominent signs are fatigue, dizziness, anxiety, headaches, premenstrual syndrome or PMS, and weight gain. The last being my problem for the last two years is taking its toll on my overall health and my outlook in life. I'm not as confident when I was younger and slimmer. Appearance though is not the outright problem for me but by the way my weight is affecting my activities around the house. I get tired easily. I have the tendency to rest after doing a minor activity. I wish I have the conviction to exercise to get rid of the unnecessary pounds. If I'm fit and healthy I can better manage my stress and avoid this sulking mood for good. I hope to be back on my blogging activity in time.

My daughter wants to blog

3 friendly remarks
My daughter is keeping a daily journal and lately she’s showing interest in having her own blog like mine. She expresses herself well through writing (unlike mommy…sigh) and it excites her when we are discussing the possibility of designing her own site. She has an eye for layout design at a young age. She also wants to maintain a site where she can post all her recent drawings. There is a new free blog hosting service for beginner called Nakutaku. The homepage is so design to allow young bloggers to roam and check on important details in starting out a blog. You just have to sign up for free to get your free blog powered by wordpress and you are ready to begin your journey to the blogosphere. Just remember to make a creative name for your blog for easy recall. I tried signing up for my daughter and in just seconds I created Naomi’s Lair. She’s about ready to fill her site’s pages with her creative thoughts.

Compression stockings for my aching feet

0 friendly remarks

I feel really tired when we got back from watching New Moon tonight. The short distance from the cinema to the cab station gave me a hard time walking it’s as if I walk a mile. My legs are killing me. No amount of massage or elevate that I do to my feet; they still hurt so badly and feel heavy when I walk. I read an article that says compression socks can relax tired and aching legs. I wish I have a pair to use right now. A college friend who is suffering from diabetes has been using a pair of jobst socks to work. She said it gives her comfort after a day’s work. I found that Jobst is the number one physician recommended brand in compression stockings because they provide comfort to tired feet and address serious leg problems like swelling and venous disease. The sock or stocking can be worn by both men and women in office, those engage in sports activity, and diabetic like what my friend is using. Discountsurgical.com is offering Jobst sock as well as brands from Sigvaris, Juzo and Medi at 75 to 80 percent discount. Women can choose from knee-high, thigh-high and pantyhose compression. They are available in two colors, skin tone and elegant black.

In the second installment of Stephenie Meyer’s TWILIGHT series, the romance between mortal and vampire soars to a new level as BELLA SWAN (Kristen Stewart) delves deeper into the mysteries of the supernatural world she yearns to become part of—only to find herself in greater peril than ever before. Following Bella’s ill-fated 18th birthday party, EDWARD CULLEN (Robert Pattinson) and his family abandon the town of Forks, Washington, in an effort to protect her from the dangers inherent in their world. As the heartbroken Bella sleepwalks through her senior year of high school, numb and alone, she discovers Edward’s image comes to her whenever she puts herself in jeopardy. Her desire to be with him at any cost leads her to take greater and greater risks. With the help of her childhood friend JACOB BLACK (Taylor Lautner), Bella refurbishes an old motorbike to carry her on her adventures. Bella’s frozen heart is gradually thawed by her budding relationship with Jacob, a member of the mysterious Quileute tribe, who has a supernatural secret of his own. When a chance encounter brings Bella face to face with a former nemesis, only the intervention of a pack of supernaturally large wolves saves her from a grisly fate, and the encounter makes it frighteningly clear that Bella is still in grave danger. In a race against the clock, Bella learns the secret of the Quileutes and Edward’s true motivation for leaving her. She also faces the prospect of a potentially deadly reunion with her beloved that is a far cry from the one she’d hoped for.

Yummy: A choice between the real food and bad habit

7 friendly remarks
mommy moments
The case of two picky eaters.

When my daughter was a baby she can practically survive for hours without taking any milk or solid food. She just loved to suck her thumb. She developed a corn (kalyo) on her right thumb because of the habit. She was so skinny then because she ate like a lizard (it's a metaphor).  Her brother on other hand was the ‘buchoy’ or ‘kwatog’ in the family. He was chubby because he eats anything served to him.

Now, its the other way around Khalil is the picky eater while his sister has a good appetite. Look at how she eats spaghetti. Yummy!

When I shop for our weekly grocery I try to avoid buying on impulse and stick to my grocery list. The same thing with my Christmas list, I only designate practical items for each recipient. Holiday Deals Dirt Devil.com is a big help for me these days because it saves me time (for unplanned shopping hours) and my hard-earned money. The site caters to over 300 websites that offer the best deal on promotional products through its Red Hot Online Shopping Shortcuts. The Black Friday and Cyber Monday Websites, for example, provide the place for hard to find items in regular department store. What’s best about the site is that they give your promo codes that you can use to buy your gifts for him, for her and for the family’s favorites. You only need to learn how to find those codes. By using the promo codes I will have extra money to buy Christmas furnishings and food for our little family gathering on Christmas and New Year’s Eve. The Holiday guide will also lead you to hundreds of websites that offer free shipping. Imagine you get the promo item and you can have the products delivered free of charge on Christmas Day itself.

Our first year together as Mr. and Mrs. T

Rodliz’s Nest

Liz, pardon me for the late entry. It’s only today that I’m posting my entry for Couple's Corner which usually runs on a Wednesday. This week’s theme is about the first 365 days as husband and wife.

We have two important occasions to celebrate on our first year together, our wedding day and the birth of our first bundle of joy. There were a lot of adjustments and occasional spats during our first 365 days as a couple and as brand new parents. But counting the days to the present, hubby didn’t change a bit. He is still the same funny, understanding and responsible guy that I’ve known 13 years ago. I hope he will remain the ideal husband and Dad as he is now thirteen more years and beyond. God is so good for blessing our married life.

Goodbye, Clifford

1 friendly remarks
My son's new pet has died. We found the poor bird lifeless inside its cage yesterday afternoon...Hubby just bought it from the market last Saturday. My son was so happy to have the bird and named it Clifford. Yesterday, I'm supposed to write a post about Clifford but he was not moving when my son checked on him...

Pictures of Clifford when he was still alive.

Clifford is a Java Sparrow (Padda oryzivora), also known as Java Rice Bird and Java Temple Bird. It is usually colorful, easy to breed and relatively inexpensive. Java Sparrow originates from Southern Asia specifically Java, Bali, and Sumatra.

I need a vacation. Book me a trip

1 friendly remarks
If hubby’s boss is generous enough to grant him a big bonus this year we may finally pursue our long-time plan to visit his family in General Santos City, southern part of the Philippines. But if our cash pot is overflowing we want to experience Egypt Holidays and visit the mythical Pyramid of Giza. I just need to contact the travel team at ulookubook.com to book the cheapest flight and reserve the affordable hotel for my family when we get there. I read from their site that around November and December is the best time to avail the cheap Egypt holiday package. It’s interesting to explore the beautiful underwater world of the land of the Pharaoh. We also intend to find out if camels are indeed slow travellers through the bumpiest camel race at Sharm el-Sheikh. But that occasion comes around May for the South Sinai Camel Festival. So if you want to know more about cheap holiday destination, discount hotels and even last minute flights, ulookubook.com is the site for you to visit. They also have a FAQs page in case you want to be clarified on certain things about your travel. Customers are even encouraged to write their own review of their holiday experience. So treat your family this Yuletide season and book your first travel out of the county with ULookUBook.

Ugg boots I want

2 friendly remarks
My sister who is working in Macau is complaining about how cold the weather is in her area right now. Temperature is bone chilling she said. I wonder how she keeps herself warm at daytime. I hope she bought that ugg boots she is talking about buying the other day. Ugg, the brand known for its fashionable boots would match her daytime sweater or light jacket. My sister might be freezing but still feels fashionable with her boots on. :D

Ugg boots looks bulky, but they are actually light weight, soft and comfortable to wear because the materials are made from 100 percent pure wool from Australia. And when you say boots it doesn’t mean you only wear them for the cold season. Footwear from Ugg is regarded as year round boots because it let you feet and toes warm in winter and cool in the summer.

I wonder how my sister looks in skirt and boots. :D I hope she avails the ugg boots sale online so she can buy me a pair like the classic cardy boots below (please). :D

Good and bad news

12 friendly remarks

I'm sharing good news and some bad news today. The good news is that my daughter's effort to get a better grade has paid off.  She is included in the list of Achievers for the second grading period. A student should have an average grade of 91 percent to be included in the A-list. Her grades especially in English and Math subjects have improved a lot. I owe it to her self-determination. And now the bad news, my son got a low grade in Math as in real low. It is disappointing. He needs a tutor but we can't afford to hire one at the moment. Maybe I should really take time off from my online activity to devote more time for my son's studies. They will have their monthly test on Thursday and Friday. I should start browsing my son's book today. But I have one minor concern, I'm not good at Math especially fraction how will I teach him then? Waah!

I connived because you deserve something like this. I personally would like to thank you for being so kind even if you haven't seen me in person (only in my blog photos). I know there is more to the material present that I received the other day. There was a piece of you in that package. The package glows with your kindness. Thank you. You are the one who put a smile on my face. :)

Just to let you know you somebody cares for you.

Benefits of adgitizing

3 friendly remarks
I received an email from Ken Brown of Adgitize Network informing me that my ad will expire in 5 days so that will be on Nov. 18. I will surely miss the services of Adgitize. I wish to renew this month but I still have to raise sufficient fund.

Adgitize has done a lot of good things to my blog. My alexa ranking has improved and my Page Rank (PR) increased from 0 to 2. I also get to visit new sites and meet new online friends through Adgitize. And as a bonus, I'm expecting a cash payout (hopefully soon) as a rebate for my advertisement. I'm definitely happy with their service. If you wish to receive the same benefit for your blog as a publisher or as advertiser visit their site now by clicking on the Adgitize banner above. Happy adgitizing with you!

Young chow fried rice with siomai toppings

Young chow fried rice topped with siomai. Young chow fried rice is a hit to my kids. Siomai on the other hand is my comfort food. I can finish three orders of these in one sitting. ^^ I've tried cooking both foods on different occasions but nothing beats the original taste of Chowking's bestseller snack.

The recession has taken its toll on many home owners in the US. Families are forced to foreclose or sell their properties at much lower rate. There are those who break their bank to improve their homes, to increase its aesthetic appeal and selling power. But there are means to make your property sellable without spending thousands not even hundreds of your hard-earned money. More homeowners are now utilizing Creative Corners’ DIY Pre-Fabricated Arched Doorway Kits by Archcraft Products to give more character or unique feature to their home. The pre-formed corner inserts transform square interior doorways into arched doorways without the frustration and guesswork out of building drywall arches. There are four different types of door arches namely the partial, full, eyebrow or step arches. Each Creative Corner model comes in 2-piece kits. They are primed and ready to install. You can mount it on your doorways, hallways, directed to the ceiling, over bath tubs, kitchen pass-thru, and wall niches, flat walls and stairwells. You only need to follow 4 simple steps and you’re done just like a professional. You can paint or cover your finish product with wallpaper. Each DIY kit costs between $55 and $130. Creative Corners has helped customers sell their house. Others fell in love with their home again because of the product. You can buy the DIY kit directly at creativecorners.net.
